Welcome to Ms. Ewing's Earth/Space PBL Class! |
About the Class
Course Description:
Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which complex real-world problems are used as the vehicle to promote student learning of concepts and principles as opposed to direct presentation of facts and concepts. In addition to course content, PBL will promote the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills. It will also provide opportunities for working in groups, finding and evaluating research materials, and life-long learning. This yearlong course will provide students with basic knowledge of earth and space science. Students will be exposed to geology, paleontology, meteorology, and astronomy, as well as discussions and activities concerning natural disasters, environmental influences, and space exploration. Fulfills a science course requirement for all diplomas, including Core 40 and AHD.

About PBL
Why Problem Based Learning?
Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. Research indicates that when students are more engaged, they are more likely to retain information and enjoy learning. Instead of only learning WHAT to learn, students learn HOW to learn. Couple this with increasingly important skills that employers are seeking, and PBL just makes sense.
NOTE: This website serves to make our products public (one of the essential elements of PBL). We also seek and value constructive feedback. Please visit our Current Problem page to access the feedback form to critique our work so we can revise where needed (another essential element of PBL).
